The few things that moved enough to matter, and the market to be in next.
Alerts & insights lists subcategories diverging from your business and search terms growing fast enough to act on, with thresholds you set. Category insights places your brand in Amazon's category data: where you stand, where to grow, how to win and what is coming.
Built for brands selling on Amazon through Vendor Central or Seller Central.
Scanning reports hides what changed.
Weekly reports are long, and category research means downloading marketplace data and working out what it says about your own range.
Exceptions are buried
A subcategory that is falling while the business grows is easy to miss in a full report.
Rising search terms go unseen
Terms that are taking off only matter if someone notices them in time to add them to ads or listings.
Category research is manual
Marketplace category data is not tied to your catalog, so judging where you sell, and where you could, takes extra work.
Inside Alerts & insights and Category insights
Alerts & insights is a thresholded exception list on screen. Category insights has an Explore tab and a For your brand tab.
Each tab describes one screen, with its parts numbered.
Two cards list subcategories and search terms that cross thresholds you control, with a comparison locked to the same weeks last year.
Alerts & insights: what moved against the business
Two cards list subcategories and search terms that cross thresholds you control, with a comparison locked to the same weeks last year.
- 01
Weekly picker
Defaults to the last 4 weeks, with quick ranges L4W and L13W and an Export.
- 02
Locked comparison
Compared with the same weeks last year, or the weeks before when under a year of SQP history is loaded, with a note explaining which.
- 03
Subcategory sales anomalies
A sentence with editable thresholds: flag a subcategory when its sales year over year differs from the total business by at least 15 points and it sold at least $1,000 in either period.
- 04
Anomalies table
Subcategory, Signal (Growing or Declining), Sales, Year ago, YoY, vs total in points, $ change, Traffic YoY and Main driver.
- 05
Search term trends
Show search terms averaging at least 500 weekly searches, with growth of at least 25%, and a toggle to include terms not in the report before.
- 06
Row detail
A subcategory row opens YoY sales and traffic by week and a by-ASIN chart. A search term row opens a volume chart and lets you track the term.
What these pages do
Thresholds you set
Defaults are 15 points, $1,000, 500 searches a week and 25% growth, and each can be edited on the page.
A named main driver
Each subcategory alert splits the sales change into traffic, conversion and order value and names the largest contributor.
Growing and new search terms
Terms are marked Growing or New, with a toggle to include terms that were not in the report before.
Honest gaps in term data
SQP lists each week's top terms only, so gaps of up to 8 weeks are filled with a straight line and drawn dashed.
Marketplace category data
Demand, search, returns and competition per product type and item type, with an Excel export.
Entry difficulty
Opportunities are read as Open, Moderate or Concentrated, next to size and growth.
See, click, buy
For each item type, your share of shoppers who see, click and buy on its top search terms, with a verdict and an action sentence.
Seasonality against your sales
Monthly market sales are shown against the same month a year before and your own monthly sales.
Who uses it, and for what
Category manager
Opens Alerts & insights on Monday to see which subcategories are far off the business and what the main driver is.
Advertising lead
Finds rising search terms to add to ads or listings, and tracks a new term from the term detail.
Brand manager with a noisy catalog
Raises the thresholds so the list holds only the movements worth acting on.
Product development lead
Uses For your brand to compare market size, growth and entry difficulty before choosing the next product line.
Strategist
Reads the price band that converts best and the peak months before pricing a launch and planning stock and ads.
What changes for your team
An exception list, not a report
Scanning a full report gives way to a short list of what moved enough to matter.
Each alert points to a cause
Traffic, conversion or order value is named, with the charts one click away.
Category research in one guided view
Seller Central category downloads become a brand-aware view of where you stand and where to grow.
What it needs, and what it doesn't do
What it needs
- An Amazon Seller Central or Vendor Central connection for retail weekly data.
- Search Query Performance data for the search term trends and for the year-ago comparison.
- Reporting access for your team, and Category insights switched on for your brand.
- Seller Central Category Insights data downloaded for your marketplace. Until it is, the page says it isn't downloaded yet.
What it doesn't do
- It doesn't change anything on Amazon. These pages read data and link out to Advertising and SQP Insights.
- Alerts are on-screen insights. They are not sent by email or Slack, and there is no scheduled delivery.
- Category numbers are marketplace-wide and the same for every seller. Amazon's 90-day and 12-month windows start and end part-way through a week or month, so the first and last periods read low.
- Item types are Amazon's product groupings, not search terms. What shoppers type is in SQP Insights.
